Cowgirl Cocktails: Top Happy Hours Houston

In 1882, Harry Johnson’s new and improved bartenders manual was released. While the cocktails in 1882 are nothing like the happy hours we imbibe in in 2024, they are one of the oldest dated printed books that cowgirls and cowboys alike could peruse. We all know every cowgirl, after a long day on the ranch or a long day in the office, needs a stiff cocktail with her closest friends. So without further ado, here are some of this cowgirl’s favorites no matter what your budget or when your ranch day ends.

Down the Street is just that, a bar down the street. It’s settled in the Cottage Grove neighborhood and is a spot to relax. The vibes are relaxed and the cocktails are always strong. Their food and drink specials are definitely worth checking them out even after happy hour. Their parking is slim so get there early or you’ll be street parking along Larkin. Cheers!

marmo houston tx houston bar

Marmo – 888 Westheimer Rd Suite 109, Houston, TX 77006

3-6pm | $$

Marmo is an italian inspired restaurant that has happy hour with a pianist. If that doesn’t make your vibes and mouth water, I don’t know what will. Their snacks and food are melt in the mouth and their cocktails mirror that. Their bar is utterly beautiful and it’s a great happy hour for dressing up and hopping up to Postino’s afterward if needed to continue the night!

better luck tomorrow houston bar houston tx

Better Luck Tomorrow – 544 Yale St, Houston, TX 77007

2-5pm | $

BLT is known for a great happy hour but it’s more for if you’re off work or need a pick me up midday because it ends at 5pm. If you go, try the Salty Cat and their french fries with ranch. You won’t be disappointed. My friends love their martinis. They do all different kinds of fancy olives that would suit your whims if you’re into spirit forward drinks. They have a patio that they just redid and it’s worth sitting outside on a sunny afternoon and people watching off of the corner of Yale and White Oak. You’ll thank me later!

Wicklow – 1027 W 19th St, Houston, TX 77008

Wicklow’s happy hour is worth checking out, particularly on Thursdays when they do bingo and $4 espresso martinis. They also do $10 spritzes on Sundays so keep that in your back pocket for Sunday fundays. They have indoor and outdoor seating and an ample parking lot. They also are in walking distance to 20th with it’s plethora of sports bars. I love their heart mural wall so be sure to grab a selfie in front of it!

Brenner’s on the Bayou – 1 Birdsall St, Houston, TX 77007

Brenner’s is set against such an incredible view that it makes its happy hour worth it even more than usual. They do live music on Thursdays from 5-9pm as well if you’re into that sort of thing. Their cocktails are superb and as always, their food is exquisite. If you’re looking for a place to relax amidst beautiful views in the heart of Houston, this is the place for you!

padres houston tx houston wine bar

Padres – 3522 White Oak Dr, Houston, TX 77007

Padre’s does not have an exclusive happy hour menu. However, they are constantly running amazing wine flights (usually less than $20) for high quality wine. They also do a bread board that is mouthwatering with their whipped cheese and jam. They also have bottled wine for sale. So if you’re hopping White Oak, stop by here and not only try their flights but find yourself a great bottle of wine to take with you!
